You guys, it’s Tuesday which means Toss It Out Tuesday, your inspiration for getting that clutter out of your house! As I introduced previously, the concept is simple.
- Have 6 bins, boxes or bags labeled Donate, Move, File, Sell, Recycle and Trash.
- Pick an area of your home to begin with – even a small space, such as a linen closet is a great way to begin!
- Start tossin’.
Toss It Out Tuesday
This week, I tossed out a whole bunch of stuff, but sadly it was only 1 bag’s worth!
Here’s my problem. {Confession Alert} My dirty little secret – actually my “cleaning” little secret, is that if I have people coming over in 15 minutes and there’s STILL crap on the kitchen counter (usually because I’ve been dawdling in the kitchen too long), I toss it in a bag.
Not so much a problem, IF I took care of the bag’s contents, in … oh, I don’t know … a day after they were placed in said bag.
But I don’t, and the bag gets tossed around from room to room depending on which room’s being seen by guests, and then I’m faced with:
- Missing school papers that needed signed
- Expired coupons I could have used
- Missing checks (uh-huh, it’s happened. Don’t tell my accountant husband or accountant father. Scratch that, at least one of them reads my blog.)
- Purchasing duplicates of something unnecessarily
The bigger problem? I don’t just have 1 bag of this counter clutter. I have several. And while I’m hoping you’re on this journey with me, it’s one step at a time; and this particular bag I tossed had papers and coupons from 2013! Seriously!!
So for your amusement, and possibly my own humiliation, here’s what I tossed this week, from that one measly bag of counter clutter:
- Donate: A couple small toys still new in package are being donated to Carlie’s classroom “treasure” box.
- Move: Fourteen cents were moved into my wallet. That was exciting, wasn’t it?!
- File: My dog’s vet record from 2013. My 5th grader daughter’s 2nd grade school picture. Crayon artwork from one of my children. It’s so old I can’t tell whose art it is.
- Sell: Other small toys I placed in a “FREE” or “25¢” box that I use at my garage sale.
- Recycle: Lots and lots of papers, old coupon inserts, and a couple of old magazines.
- Trash: Another Barbie leg. I kid you not. A used paint stick (?!?!).
So I’m sorry this week I’m sharing the not-so-pretty peek into my clutter contents, but nevertheless this is my journey, and it’s one less bag I’ve tossed. So I’ll chalk that up to a Win.
Your Turn!
Here’s your turn to share what you tossed during the last week! Leave a comment below, sharing what you tossed (into any of the categories above). Everyone who comments on the Toss It Tuesday posts each week will be entered into a monthly drawing for a fun prize!

Here is one thing I tossed! an old photo box – I decided to buy plain colors of photo boxes. Yes, I still have the old photos and while I’m trying to go through them, my progress is slow. I’ve started the process at our church’s “Craft and chat”, which is a monthly get together , in which we bring our crafts or projects and get together to socialize and work on stuff. Eventually I hope to get to the scrap booking part, but right now, I’m tossing the photos I don’t want (it’s a lot easier to decide when you’re way behind and you’ve run out of space to store them all!) and putting them in NEW acid free photo storage boxes , which happen to be on sale at a major craft store this week. oh, and I recycled the old box – kudos to you ann-marie, for reminding all of us of that – thank you!!!

I tossed in my kids bedroom, went through old baby clothes I never got around to sorting by size (which makes them nothing more than a waste of space because I can’t find them when I need that size!) I tossed one bag, donated two more and started a sell box for the next mom to mom sale.
