Simply Fun – Children’s Game Review & Giveaway

My two oldest children are just getting to the age they can play games together, even sometimes by themselves.  We have the typical preschool games stacking our shelves, so I was super excited when my friend Cindy Herr-Pino brought an opportunity my way to try out a new game you can’t get everywhere else, and asked me to write a review for my readers!

Simply Fun has easy to learn, easy to play games that help bring families together through play. They offer games for toddlers through adult, and what I like is that many of their games can be played for different age/skill levels, allowing you to play with your whole family, or for younger children to have fun playing a more simple version together.

My family tried out Digger’s Garden Match.

How to play:

In Digger’s Garden Match, each 6-sided matching card has 6 different color triangles, with shapes in each. Play starts from the center tile (the Dog House), and players match a triangle from their card to either the center tile or another already laid down. They can match by color, shape or number; i.e. purple to purple, 2 stars to 3 stars, or 1 square to 1 heart. When a player has laid their card down and made a match, they count the number of shapes from their match, and move their dog bone on the scoreboard accordingly.

Higher skill levels would involve more strategic play, scoring more points for matching more than one match tile, and higher number of shapes.

My Thoughts:

Right away I liked the quality and durability of the game. The matching cards were sturdy and thick, perfect for little ones that are rough with thinner paper cards. (I mean let’s face it, one upsetting move and it could be hurled across the room by one of my kids!).  It also comes with 6 different color, chunky hard plastic doggie bones, scoreboard and instruction sheet. That’s it, no teeny bits and pieces to keep track of or lose in your carpet.

This was a fun game to play with my kids. It wasn’t long before Mallory (6) could point out to her brother (4) that if he laid his matching tile here, he’d get more points than there. I also brought it along to a mom’s game club to have other moms try out. One friend had her 3 year old daughter, Grace, on her lap, and she joined in the fun. The box says the game is targeted for kids 4+ years old, however Grace did a great job matching the tiles, and even could match 3 triangles at once, scoring a big 11 points in one turn.
